Summary/Abstract: The text discusses the most important issues raised in the monograph: an explanation of the meaning and role of symbolic theology (and the principle of cognitio symbolica, which is a part of it) in the work of Antoni Węgrzynowicz – an eighteenth-century preacher, a Cracow Franciscan, the author of several hundred sermons in Polish and Latin. What is emphasised is the author’s skill in identifying and describing the allegorisation procedures employed at various levels of the text (from the collection-concept, through individual sermons, to selected examples of argumentation). The reviewed publication is assessed as extremely valuable, both for its rich source material, erudition and analytical skills, as well as for its comprehensive coverage of the work of the preacher.
