Summary/Abstract: In contemporary society, political manipulation represents a normality, and the term fake news has come to be typically used. The present paper treats the subject of disinformation, the decline of written press, the difference between disinformation, manipulation, rumour and fake news. The importance of this theme is found in its very content, more specifically, it has its roots in the appearance of more and more information catalogued as fake news. “The Rise of Social Media”, the digital revolution and the online press are a few of the highly important concepts within this paper. The choice of the theme was not one left to chance, the motivation being represented by the fact that there is not enough research about fake news in Romania, but also the interest which the subject awakens in the author. A topic which combines journalistic influences with the political universe, and which leads to controversy cannot but give birth to curiosity.
