Summary/Abstract: Contemporary conditions are characterized by a high degree of uncertainty, instability, unpredictability, and constant transitions to different types of crises. In such a situation, ensuring national security through effective crisis management is very important for the state's long-term development. Unfortunately, the analyses of the situation and challenges facing the Bulgarian national security system show a critical level caused by objective and subjective characteristics of the state's economic, social and administrative-managerial system, which are different in nature and intensity. The author aims to explore the relationship between crisis management and the state of security in Bulgaria, and on this basis formulate the capacities to overcome the deficits of the national security system. The author concludes that it is necessary to formulate a national doctrine for the long-term development of the Bulgarian state and a new National Security Strategy for the Republic of Bulgaria.
