Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study was to explain the attitude towards Romania's integration to EU from the reformulated theory of learned helplessness (Abramson et al., 1978; Abramson et al., 1989). The main hypothesis was that individuals with a optimistic attributional style will be more favorable to the integration compared to pessimists. For the measurement of attitude a six-domain scale was built and used: economical, political, social, educational, juridical and medical. Pessimism was measured directly through the subject's expectations for future events and indirectly through the attributional style for the positive and negative events. The subjects were 502 with ages between 19 and 52 years old. The results indicate that pessimists have a less favorable attitude towards the Romania's integration to EU compared to optimists. The results also showed that even though a significant relation exists between the two measures of optimism (direct and indirect), the attributional style had a bigger impact on subject's attitudes.
