Summary/Abstract: The crossing between power issues and gender issues is a common place for the psychoanalytical, anthropological or sociological literature. We were interested in answering the question in the title by analyzing the social representation of power through gender categories. We have used an associative method to gather data regarding the content and the structure of three entities: the social representation of power (SRP), the masculine power construct (MPC) and the feminine power construct (FPC). Their comparison was made from four different perspectives: lexical, thematic, semantic and pragmatic. The analysis showed for the SRP the existence of gender dynamics: from a multiple structure of gender to androgyny, and for the pragmatic dimension from a multiple structure of gender to masculinity. Although we should consider the results with some caution as being representative for other categories of subjects (the subjects were 120 students), we can assert that the power issue, seen through its social representation, seems to partially lack the androcentrism.
