Summary/Abstract: The present study focuses on two 20th century French poems tematicaly related to the St. Wenceslaus Chapel in Prague. The connection may appear surprising as Guillaume Apollinaire (1880–1955) and Paul Claudel (1868–1955) belong to different generations and both of them have also a very singular aesthetics. As the resonance is caused by the visited chapel, the first part of the study is devoted to the very sacred topos in order to create a ground for the literary analyses. The importance of the sanctuary for the Czech historical narrative opens a possibility of yet wider contextualisation, concerning especially the medieval Kingdom of Hungary and the rise of Jagellonian dynasty.
