Summary/Abstract: This work discusses different aspects of managerial influences on the choice of a company’s strategy types and organizational structure types. Our goal is to consider and “clarify” the very nature of influence of personal interests, personal characteristics of managers and the ways they perceive the external environment on the choice of a company’s strategy and structure. On the basis of critical analyses and comparisons of research results, and results of te research conducted in Bosnian firms, it can be concluded that managers or managerial teams cannot observe all aspects of their organization and its environment because their cognitive basis and system of values make their “field of vision” limited and thus constrain their perception as well. If combined with a particular manager’s values, managerial perception provides the basis for the choice of strategy and structure. Also, those companies where managers participate in ownership tend to use the structural M-model, in contrast to the companies where managers play the role of chief executives only and tend to use the structural U-model. A manager’s personal level of extroversion or introversion, his/her age, socio-economic background, functional area where s/he acquired primary work experience, formal education and other factors more or less impact managerial preferences for a particular type of strategy/structure in the company.
