Spectroscopic Analysis of Drugs for the Treatment of Erectile Dysfunction in Solid Phase and in Solution

Summary/Abstract: There has been a rapid increase in counterfeit for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, which are only available with a prescription. The content of the active substance is often exceeded several times or the active substance is completely absent. These counterfeits contain various adulterants and unstudied structural derivatives of the original compounds, which poses a great risk for their users. Vibrational spectroscopy methods can be used to characterize the counterfeits as they require minimal sample preparation and can characterise the counterfeit against measured spectra of standards. In the case of a chiral substance, chiroptical spectroscopy methods can also be used. Their combination with quantum chemical calculations, allow us to determine the absolute configuration and describe the structure in detail. This study is focused on the analysis of avanafil using chiroptical and vibrational spectroscopy in solution and solid state.
