Summary/Abstract: During the 18th and 19th centuries, the arable land area of the Năsăud region, the number of windmills, domestic animals and households increased. Also, the number of inhabitants increased, and fairs were organized. However, the population’s economic situation has barely improved. This was a result of the lack of economic culture of the inhabitants and the policy of the Austrian Empire, later the Austro-Hungarian Empire, regarding the Romanians of that area to keep them under control and at a low economic and cultural level.
