Summary/Abstract: Security science is a newly emerging discipline that has not yet been adequately defined by researchers. The constant search for solutions to the system of protecting the security of the state prompts us to consider how the protection of the state border affects the overall sense of security. The aim of the article is to look at the role and place of border security in the overall definition of the security system of the Republic of Poland in security sciences. In order to accurately understand the role of border security it is necessary to get acquainted with the main tasks faced by the border services. This task is to reveal border crimes such as illegal migration, falsification of transport documents and visas, smuggling of excise goods, human trafficking. The article analyses the most important border crimes on the basis of which the essence of border security is defined.
