Illegal Migration on the Territory of the Republic of Poland in 2019-2022

Summary/Abstract: The article shows the definitional framework, division, and characteristics of the migrationphenomenon. It analyses the legal regulations concerning the status of a migrant, the status of a refugee, as wellas the recognition of crossing the state border in violation of the law. The article discusses in detail the scopeand range of illegal migration that has occurred in recent years on the territory of the Republic of Poland. Theaim of the article is to answer the following questions: What is the border protection and defence at the nationallevel of the Republic of Poland in the context of the migration crisis and illegal migration? Has the number ofillegal migrants arriving on the territory of the Republic of Poland changed in the perspective of the past years?Are there real justifications for the arrival of migrants on the territory of the Republic of Poland? The researchhypothesis was formulated as follows: the system of protection and defence of the borders of the Republic ofPoland against illegal migration functions at a good level (a large number of disclosures), but is not fullysufficient in the perspective of the currently occurring threats. The research method used in the article is themethod of synthesis and analysis – Including analysis of literature and available statistics of the Border Guard.
