Summary/Abstract: After Stalin’s death in March 1953, major changes occurred in the economic policy of the countries in the Communist bloc. Romania was no exception. One can find the reasons why the authorities in Bucharest espoused the “new trend” in the summer of 1953 in two documents from the archives of the former Central Committee of the RCP (the enhanced report of the committee led by Miron Constantinescu and the shorthand report of the Politburo meeting when the report was amended) which are considered significant for the changes in the economic strategy of the Gheorghiu-Dej governance.
