Summary/Abstract: All the peoples that fell under Soviet occupation opposed resistance to communism. However, Romania put up the most ample, bloody and lasting anticommunist armed resistance that spanned over eighteen years. The Romanians showed that they would not let themselves subdued without a fight. And the repression was ruthless. The sacrifice of the partisans in prisons and in the mountains entitles Romania to keep its head up with dignity before the other nations of the world.
