Summary/Abstract: The phenomenon of illness was a convenient inventive material for preachers who addressed their texts to a wide audience, and the subject was treated in two ways: as a basis for analogy and literally. The article contains e.g. discussion of allegorical sermons, based entirely on the aforementioned analogy, and presents ways of using the topic of illness and sickness in a peruasive function. The exemplifying material are collections of sermons by Antoni Węgrzynowicz, Franciszek Rychłowski, Walerian Gutowski, Aleksander Lorencowicz, Jan Krosnowski, Benedykt Zawadzki and Bazyli Rychlewicz.
