Rhetorical functions and their role in shaping the imagined community of cancer patients (in the light of blogs)

Summary/Abstract: The subject of the study's interest is fifteen of the most popular Polish oncology blogs. Internet autopathrographies are a crucial element of the maladic discourse because they create an alternative to the strictly medical way of perceiving the disease, its experience, the healing process and new functioning in the world during and after the disease. Above all, they provide a space for creating a virtual community of patients with malignant tumors – a community based on the borderline experience of a life-threatening, genuinely deadly disease.
