Summary/Abstract: The evolution in the number of P.C.R. members until 1944 is a controversial issue, as data on this matter are incomplete. Even from such scanty information, one car conclude, upon careful analysis, that the P.C.R. was a miniature party, a cult, mostly made up of ethnic minorities. After 1945 efforts were made to turn the P.C.R. into a mass party and, simultaneously, to make it Romanian, loan Chiper, Department head at the Nicolae lorga History Institute.
