Summary/Abstract: One of the most frequently and widely used terms within the social and political history of Islam is the term ‘caliphate’, which originates from the word ‘caliph’, which denotes a regent, deputy, representative and has two levels of meaning. The first level deals with the man’s ontological regency, or rather that a man is but God’s creature which walks among other creations. This meaning within the Islamic tradition firstly occurs in the Quranic text. Therefore, that is the first level of the term’s meaning, that man is but God’s steward in the world.
