Summary/Abstract: The paper attempts to give an insight into the state of the Bosnian language in Slovenia and to explain theoretically the terminology related to the language of origin and its affinity to the mother tongue. The focus is on the writing competence of pupils (12-14 years old) attending Bosnian language classes. The paper also provides examples of errors that appear in the written works of students attending supplementary Bosnian language schools, who are in daily contact with Slovenian and Bosnian languages. The aim was not to illustrate all the mistakes but only the most frequent ones which are characteristic for speakers of the two related languages. A person who uses two related languages learns the second language much more easily because of interference. On the other hand, it is precisely because of the affinity of these languages that learners unintentionally make mistakes when speaking or writing.
