Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the genesis of the formation of the doctors’ and dentists’ professional self-government in Poland and discusses the most important stages of shaping the deontology of the aforementioned profession since the beginning of the Second Polish Republic. The paper is devoted to the ethical principle of preserving the dignity of the medical profession and not acting in a manner that undermines trust in that profession (as referred to in Article 1 of the Code of Medical Ethics of 1991). The authors have given special attention to the changes that have taken place over the years and have shown different approaches to the perception of this medical ethics’ principle.
