Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study is to create and verify the influence of the musical concept in students with a mild level of intellectual disability at a younger school age for the purpose of developing reading literacy. The research analyzes the effectiveness of an innovative concept based on the methods of Carl Orff, Nordoff Robbins, Théa Budget in synergy with Elkonin‘s method of phonemic awareness, the primary purpose of which is the development of phonemic awareness, auditory and visual differentiation and other cognitive functions involved in the process of acquiring correct and effective reading skills. The empirical part of the study is based on qualitative research methods, especially participatory observation and case studies. The evaluation of the results uses the content analysis of the meetings of the studied students with mild intellectual disabilities at a younger school age, as well as the graphic processing of the achieved goals. The effectiveness of the elaborated concept, inspired by known methods, is verified using a questionnaire and test methods aimed at determining the current state of reading literacy of pupils with intellectual disabilities. From the interpretation of the results, it emerged that with the help of a music-oriented concept, we effectively work on the development of reading literacy, despite the limits mentioned in the application section.
