Current issues of music education of students with specific learning disabilities in non-formal education

Summary/Abstract: Considering the inclusive trends in education, where the majority of students with specific learning disabilities are preferably educated in an inclusive school environment, it is necessary to ensure the saturation of the needs of practice in relation to special methodological training of teachersof non-formal education. The aim is to conduct a cross-sectional descriptive study using a questionnaire to obtain information about the current state of the conditions of music education of students with specific learning disabilities in primary art schools in Slovakia and about their comprehensive music education. The aim of the research study was to obtain information about the problem areas of pupils with specific learning disabilities in their music education in primary art schools, to examine the pedagogical methods, means used by teachers in the music education of students with specific learning disabilities. The empirical part of the research study is based on quantitative research methods, inparticular on data collected through statistical questionnaire method from music teachers. The resultsof the research study show, on the one hand, the lack of special pedagogical training of primary school music teachers and, on the other hand, the interest students of the use of music education for studnets with specific learning disabilities, which can thus become a key aspect influencing the cognitive processes as well as the overall personality of the student.
