Pedagogical Understanding of an Educator’s Nature

Summary/Abstract: Understanding the nature and essential characteristics of an educator is a fundamental prerequisite for any educational activity, but plays a significant role within religious education. The paper begins with the presentation of four types of knowledge that the educator should recognize and become aware of in every educational process, after which he or she operationalizes the first and most important knowledge - knowledge about the one we are educating, presenting images and ideas about the educator’s (human) nature present in various authors and pedagogues in general and Islamic pedagogical literature. In the following work, emphasis is placed on the Islamic view of the educator’s nature through the presentation of different ideas about human nature in the Islamic interpretative tradition. In the last part of the work, the Qur’anic descriptions of the educator’s nature, its dimensions, essential characteristics, as well as praise and limitations are presented.
