WEST ON THE EAST

Summary/Abstract: The first Bosnian issue of “ The Book about the Scale of Wisdom”, a masterpiece of medieval physics, written by Ar-Rahman al-Hazini, the great Islamic scientist of the twelfth century, is in preparation. In 1859, Russian orientalist N.V. Honikov was the first one who succeeded to translate some parts of “The Book about the Scale of Wisdom” from Arabic into one of the European languages (Russian). It was not until 1983 that the complete translation of “The Book about the Scale of Wisdom” into Russian was issued by the Soviet Academy of Science and Arts. The issue being prepared in Bosnian language is the translation of the Russian volume of “The Book about the Scale of Wisdom” and represents the very first translation of “The Book...” into one of the South-Slavic languages. What this article offers is the translator’s and editor’s brief comment on the Bosnian issue of “The Book about the Scale of Wisdom”.
