About synonymy in dialects in the context of the general Polish language

Summary/Abstract: This article presents the issue of synonymy in dialects. The phenomenon is viewed in acontext of contemporary dialectal lexicographic descriptions and the abounding material excerpted from acorpus of a dialect spoken in a single village in Wielkopolska (bukówiec Górny, Leszno county). If we agree that synonymy is a stylistic phenomenon, c h o i c e gains in importance as the prerequisite for a synonymic relation. The presented analyses indicate that a proper synonymic relation in dialects oc-curs only on the level of idiolects.
