Summary/Abstract: The contemporary linguistic situation of the Polish village justifies the need to start a discussion on the subject of research of contemporary dialectology. The methodological assumptions adopted by the pioneers of local dialect research cannot still be the basis of further studies on the linguistic changes taking place in the village environment. The clear-cut generational diversity of the language of inhabitants of particular villages and the increase of incoming population justifies the search for new methodological solutions. The author believes that more and more often we can talk about the language of village inhabitants.
