Summary/Abstract: Food is a physiological and cultural component that carries the codes of how individual and collective memory is constructed. The identification through the sense organs of the morsels swallowed by people usually reveals the individual dimension of the memory at the psycho-physiologically. In addition to this it can be emphasized that physiological factors play a role in the construction of collective memory with experiences in social and cultural contexts. Food, being at the center of the life on the axis of socialization and acculturation from childhood, is the source of remembering and memories. This reminiscence usually reveal itself in the form of remembering food and remembering by eating. In this context, the concept of gastronostalgia, which can be defined as a sub-field within the theoretical approaches to the relationship between food and memory, takes attention in the recent literature. In this study, the gastro nostalgia approach on the foundation of the relationship food and memory, is analyzed in the example of Kirsehir minstrel Şemsi Yastıman's poem Memleket Hasreti. In other words, based on this culturally dominant poem (minstrel destan) the dimension of food that forms individual and collective memory has been examined. In this direction, an important share has been given to the phenomenon of migration within the social and economic conditions that created this poem. In addition to this, the problems of urban life are briefly discussed. In this context, it has been emphasized that this poem is more than the total of memories about food.
