Summary/Abstract: Using the method of critical and analytic autoethnography (Leon Anderson) and assumingthe duties of a humanities scholar toward the social world, the author analyzes heracademic practice. She rejects the dichotomy of objective science and engaged science, drawing attention to the form of protectionism resulting from the attitude of a sensitiveresearcher. The publication of the book was a significant moment in the process ofshaping her own research attitude and field testing social engagement, the emergenceof “legitimized courage.” The inspiration to track her academic development path wasMarcus Miessen’s concept of the critical (independent) practitioner. Analyzing her role asan academic/researcher/practitioner, the author rejects the role of an expert. Consideringit critically (after Alfred Schütz), she verifies the attitude of a critical, professional outsider.
