Summary/Abstract: At the beginning of the 1570s the Habsburg monarchy seemed to have finally reached the eastern point where control over the divided and young Transylvanian principality was actually possible, after the failure of the previous (more notable) attempts in the late 1520s or 1550s. Transylvanian authorities were however able to counteract, making the most (like their predecessors) from the Habsburg-Ottoman conflicts. This eastern joint-course of action and reaction turned the western border area of the principality into a zone of almost permanent, major and minor, military conflicts.
