Summary/Abstract: Violence has been accompanying man from the earliest times. Being an intentional act, using the advantage of the perpetrator over the victim, violating human, personal rights and causing suffering, it affects negatively on all spheres of the victim’s life. According to statistics, women are the victims of most of the acts of violence recorded in the world. Polish and international law contain regulations aimed to preventing the occurrence of violence and providing multi-faceted support for the abused. A number of state entities are empowered to protect and assist victims. However it is still important to educate the society about the effects of using violence against loved ones and possible forms of psychological, legal, medical and social assistance for victims of violence.
