Summary/Abstract: This question is rhetorical to a large extent since it has been asked so many times that it has lost its edge. There is no such thing as an unambiguous, cardinal and definite answer (both positive and negative). Any firm stance rests on certain conditions that void it of its meaning. A practical point of view is the only thing that can tilt the scales one way or the other. In the last 30 years (let us not go further back in time) the photographic image in its various manifestations has become more and more present in museums and galleries which nullifies the position that it lacks creative value. On the other hand, the photographic image, attracted by social media, is present in the everyday lives of people nowadays like never before. It is the only thing that overcomes the border of 'ability' from below - from the masses. Everyone is 'able' to do it. The goal of this article is to reduce tensions in this regard by asking questions aimed at ambiguous areas and by answering some of these questions convincingly and without prejudice. The author is aware of how complicated the subject matter is, as well as of the fact that looking into this topic is worth the effort. In addition, the polarly opposing standpoints merit analysis and an adequate categorisation at the very least.
