Summary/Abstract: Although the Western free world was waging wars in the Middle East even before the 90s, for Romanian society the impact at the political and educational level did not exist on a large scale. It was not until 2001, when the 9/11 attack in America took place, that the academic world had an increased interest in Middle Eastern history and regional politics. It is enough, in this sense, to check the increased number of academic papers submitted at the end of studies by students from all humanities specializations since 2002. The 9/11 moment opened a new reality for Romanian society as well, which could be seen not only as opposed to the neo-Soviet regime in Moscow, but also as an ally from a political and military point of view with the free Western world. Thus, as a NATO and EU member, Romania is part of an international political, economic and military system.
