Summary/Abstract: Out of all theologians of the eighteenth century, St. Nicodemus of the Holy Mountain was certainly one of the largest and certainly the most famous. Born in a period of profound social and cultural transformations due largely to the Enlightenment that was felt in the orthodox space, but not beeing the same with the clerical caractheristics wich described the European West, Nikodemus the Hagiorite managed to resurect spiritual tradition almost forgotten namely „hesychasm”. Theological work that remains from this great writer entered the romanian space early, and in a number of recent translations were presented to romanian believers interested in recent years, undergoing a great spread. Nikodemos was not only a theologian of his time, but also a saint of all orthodox people. His theological work remains current and is an inspiration dogmatic and moral debates of our day. Nicodemos the Athonite was a great theologian and teacher of the Orthodox Church, reviver of hesychasm, canonist, hagiologist, and writer of liturgical poetry. His life and works helped provide an experiential Orthodox response to contemporary Western Enlightenment culture.
