Summary/Abstract: Nowadays, the economy of space and time is a major concern, which is reflected in people's lives, in their communication and especially in their language, which evolves along with the society and also reflects it. Perhaps this necessity of language economy gave birth to acronyms and abbreviations, i.e. phenomena characteristic of the Romanian and French languages spoken nowadays. The main objective of this article is to describe the formation of new words and the enrichment of the Romanian and French vocabulary, by abbreviations and acronyms.
