Summary/Abstract: The author considers the informal caregiving of men in family life from the ethics of care perspective. The research hypothesis is that men perceive and understand care and caring in terms of obligations to others and less in terms of emotions and emotional work. The caring roles of men are depicted in taking care of others in materialistic ways, while in symbolic terms the caring roles of men represent safety and someone who is the chief support in family life, which goes hand in hand with the patriarchal image of man as the breadwinner. In other words, men care about and women take care of.
