Summary/Abstract: The article problematises domestic and care work in the private sphere as a place of gender inequality in both Slovenia and the European Union. The starting point is the reality of the significantly unequal distribution of domestic and care work in Slovenia – despite the socialist tradition of long-term female employment and public participation. The authors focus on the perceptions of responsibility for domestic and care work; on perceptions of conflicts and tensions stemming from the unequal division of this work between partners; and on different strategies to prevent or resolve these conflicts.
