THE STRUGGLE OF GJILAN AND MASSACRES OVER THE ALBANIAN POPULATION AT THE END OF 1944 AND AT THE BEGINNING OF 1944

Summary/Abstract: The paper aims at bringing to our memory those sad events of 60 years ago when the forces of Albanian Movement of Resistance, by not agreeing with the Slavonic reoccupation and illegal killings of Albanians by the Slavonic-communist forces and partisan chetnik ones, attacked Gjilan on December 23rd, 1944, in order to liberate it and also to make the Greater Powers know that Albanians shall not agree with the Slavonic-communist reoccupation of their lands. After the Gjilan’s struggle and withdrawal of the Albanian forces of resistance from the town, followed escalation and legalisation of repression in a higher scale by partisan-chetnik armed forces supported by the Slavonic-communist leadership, against Albanian innocent and unprotected population of Gjilan and its region. During the last days of 1944 and first days of 1945, it was exerted unseen genocide in the town and villages of the region, with the main goal to create general insecure and hopeless state for the Albanian population, in order to carry on the chauvinist programme of ethnic cleansing of these lands.
