Summary/Abstract: Learning and teaching the German language is an unavoidable global phenomenon, considering that the German language is used by the majority of EU citizens, and its knowledge and application in various spheres of life is essential for the quality and responsible participation of children and youth in everyday life on a micro and macro level. level. Today, in the post-communicative era of foreign language teaching, teaching materials are very important for the teaching process. The teacher is encouraged to use authentic materials, but the textbook is still the basic tool in learning a foreign language. The textbook is equally important for both the teacher and the student, because it gives teachers quality or poor quality support, and students with a quality textbook become monks, which corresponds to one of the basic principles of modern didactics, from activity to development. Given that the curricular reform in the Zenica-Doboj canton is in the process of piloting at the level of primary and high school education, a reform of the textbook policy is also necessary, which must also accompany the curricular reform, all with the aim of a higher quality educational process. The purpose of this research is to investigate the extent to which the selected textbooks for the subject of German (as a second foreign language) in elementary schools in the Zenica-Doboj Canton are aligned: a) with the Curriculum on the one hand; b) with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages; c) with a special focus on the adaptability of the lexicon to the requirements of the curriculum, as well as the Curriculum.
