Summary/Abstract: Children's literature represents a separate, but extremely important corpus within literary creation as a whole. Since the beginning of the presence of children's literature in teaching practice, it has had a significant role in the upbringing, but in the education also, which was once less emphasized. Precisely because of this, today there is a distinct dilemma about the role of children's literature, which concerns the mutual relationship and the nature of literary education and upbringing through children's literature. What is the "task" of children's literature: to educate or to raise children? Does and how does education imply raising children? Does and how does literary education imply upbringing? What is the ideology of literary education in children's literature? What are its ideological hubs? What is literary education and what are its advantages? This work, based on the methodological foundations of various contemporary literary theories, first of all tries to clearly define the phenomena of literary upbringing and literary education in children's literature and to offer guidelines for creative and contemporary approaches to understanding and teaching practice in children's literature.
