Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the present research is to investigate personality differences in vicarious trauma beliefs and to explore the mediation effects of coping on the relationship between personality and disrupted world assumptions. A total of 131 medical staff participated in the study. Scales for measuring personality traits, coping styles and vicarious trauma beliefs were administrated to all the participants. The results emphasized the importance of personality traits as predictors of dysfunctional beliefs. Also, the regression analysis showed that positive reinterpretation mediates the relationship between personality traits and vicarious trauma beliefs. The findings suggest that positive reinterpretation may be particularly important in relation to mental health and prevention of posttraumatic symptomatology.
