Summary/Abstract: This paper tries to improve knowledge of the factors that facilitate corruption in public and private entities and seeks to provide valuable insights for improved regulations and anti-corruption measures, as an efficient strategy for reducing the effects of corruption on human security. We believe the policymakers should first decide which approach is adequate within Romanian society. We argue that to sustain progress in preventing and combating corruption, public policy measures must adhere to the European legal framework and also consider the conceptual paradigms concerning the psychological and ethical underpinnings of engaging in corrupt behavior, suggesting a few remedies for reducing corrupt practices and also a few lines of further research which aim to improve human security.
