Summary/Abstract: The study aims to analyses the relation between a particular form of methamorphosis- the thanatic one and the need of distancing as attempt of producing something new; between a horizon of significations well defined, the antique Greek Latin, a horizon of comparison, severe self-analysis, and the need of authenticity. Montaigne approaches and then distances himself from the antique model with modesty and caution, building his own creative paradigm.
