Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to describe general aspects of the functional grammar of German language, emphasizing idiomatic expressions and chunks. As any other language, German offers a specific vocabulary and a certain set of grammar rules providing a kit for speakers to use when communicating a speech act. The paper focusses on three components for the social act of communication: intention, linguistic instruments and realization.
