Summary/Abstract: Intercultural communication and cultural transfer in foreign language learning primarily presupposes good knowledge of your own cultural background as well as a definition of the term “foreign” in the syntagm “foreign language”. The cultural transfer begins long before the first class of learning a foreign language. This is evident in the form of various prejudices. Starting with their first “Guten Tag”, “Hello” or “Bonjour”, learners engage in a deconstruction of these prejudices. The dissemination/ presentation of their own culture as well as of the other foreign culture thus become obligatory components of the language teaching process.
