Modification in the value of a word form: from the reflection of a language phenomenon to an orthographical attribute

Summary/Abstract: The author of the article makes use of a late 16th century Ukrainian manuscript to analyze the ways how the scriptor marked the difference between the singular and plural forms of adjectives and pronouns. The conclusion is that the difference is most often shown by using diacritical marks or by preserving letters remaining from second palatalization. Consequently, retaining letters from second palatalization does not give us information about the language of the scriptor, but it is important from the point of view of orthography.
