Summary/Abstract: After the publication of Chinua Achebe’s article vehemently accusing Joseph Conrad if racism and requesting his exclusion from the humanist canon on these grounds, the latter’s literary career has come to be divided into two periods: before and after Achebe. The present study presents Achebe’s arguments and other authors’ (counter)arguments in this still open debate.
