Summary/Abstract: Kollár´s idea of the ethnic and linguistic unity of Slavs affected by his schematic concept and subjectivism; Kollár´s idea of a common standard language for Slovaks and Czechs based on the principles of the Slavonic literary reciprocity; ‘perfection’ of this common, substantially Czech language through numerous Slovak linguistic elements; Kollár´s postulate of a common literary language for Slovaks and Czechs did not, however, lead to a statement of ethnic fusion between Slovaks and Czechs, as Ján Kollár himself was an ardent Slovak patriot and defender of Slovaks against the increasing pressure of Madjarization.
