Summary/Abstract: Friedrich Wilhelm Foerster was one of the greatest Christian educators of the 20th century. The pedagogical work of the German scholar had a considerable impact on Polish educators, and his publications had won Polish hearts even before Poland regained its independence. Although Foertser was not a Catholic (at least formally), his works found a place on the shelves of many monastery libraries. This testifies to an extraordinary mind, going beyond the usual patterns. The key concept in Foerster’s pedagogy was character, which, in his opinion, was synonymous with the immutable aspect of in human nature. It can be assumed that it was a manifestation of the deepest spiritual life. It is hard to resist the impression that in Foerster’s view, strong character is founded on bravery, which not only allows man to oppose the outside world but also to fight his own weaknesses and drives.
