Summary/Abstract: The text attempts to reconstruct the representations of the urban space in the 60ies. Sofia is chosen as a case study through which one can analyze the socialist urban project in the period. The text is focused on cultural products – newsreels, magazines, and albums – as representative for the social imaginaries. The thesis of the text is that in the „thaw“ period starts the process of ideological construction of the daily urban spaces and urban practices as „the socialist“ ones. Simultaneously the ideological frame becomes fluid and gradually „the socialist“ slides down to „the modern“. Thus we can argue that in the 60ies on the level of the social imaginary is constructed a particular modern, instead of socialist, project.
