Preliminary Findings on the Issue of Comics as a Genre in the Form of a Collection

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study is to present comics in the categories of a genre in the form of a collection. Genre collection theory was originally proposed by Maria Wojtak in her research. The study is based on the premise that because comics are a complex genre, it can realize the main assumptions of genre collection theory. While rooted in linguistics, Maria Wojtak’s concepts can be successfully utilized by comics research. Research methods: The method of comics studies analysis is used in the research taken and applied in the context of media linguistics. The preliminary study is an attempt at the application of genological tools to comics studies research. Results and conclusions: The author arrives at a conclusion that going outward from genological sciences one can utilize the concept of genre collection in comics studies. Comics will exhibit a collection of genres as well. Originality/cognitive value: The study is the first application of Wojtak’s ideas to comics studies, and as such, opens a wide research perspective. Other concepts and media linguistics applications to comics studies can therefore be considered.
