In the first part of the article the author concentrates on classic travel fiction composed at the turn of the century as well as Polish colonial novel. He then analyses one of the adventure works written by Szklarski in the period of Nazi occupation and further on studies the novel "Tomek w tarapatach" [Tomek Gets into Trouble] as an indirect link between Szklarski’s wartime literary work and his book series about Wilmowski.
